In the middle of nowhere and hidden from view until you turn into the courtyard through the arch is the wonderful setting that is Château Laffitte-Teston. Laffitte is the family name and Teston the name of the locality in which Jean-Marc Laffitte and his team produce their wines. The view from the tasting gallery across the vine filled valley is simply wonderful and worth the effort to make a visit just to see it.
In the words of Michèle LATOUR, a French wine journalist:
A man of Passion, well known in his profession, eager to fulfil his dreams, Jean-Marc knew how he wanted to transform his property. Beautiful to behold, it has become a true temple of Madiran wine built on a promontory that overlooks its own vineyards. Situated in the cradle of the Madiran (red) and Pacherenc (white) wine region it is an exceptionally beautiful location to sample the local wines that have been improved under his guidance and control. There are countless exceptional restaurants that include his wines in their list.
And now, the 5th generation of the family is getting involved. Ericka (a student of La Tour Blanche in Sauternes) and Joris have succumbed to the family virus and and travelled to discover and learn from other wine horizons before returning home, armed with their œnological and commercial educations and experiences, they have taken up the torch, helping their father develop the business further that together they one day hope to run themselves.
Respectful of both the vine and its wine, the cantor Laffitte-Teston is carried from one generation to another by a single and identical passion: To produce well rounded wines full of flavour and charm.
I have selected wines that reflect the region and that give a sample of the quality that exists. Etoile Blanche (Côtes de Gascogne) is a simple table wine while Ericka (Pecherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec) named in honour of his daughter, is a little more complex. To represent the red side of production, try the oak aged, Vielles Vignes (Madiran). I am sure you will enjoy them all.
